Residential Block
Challenge:
6-flat block facing MEES non-compliance, with properties ranging from Band F to Band D. Landlord needed clarity on prioritisation, funding routes, and tenant-friendly delivery.
CASE Approach:
Property-level assessment identified tailored measures for each flat – from mould treatment and ventilation improvements to full insulation and heating upgrades.
We mapped funding eligibility, developed a phased roadmap with flat-by-flat sequencing, and provided structured handover to delivery partners for installation.
Outcome:
5 of 6 flats upgraded to Band C or above using mixed funding. One flat deferred to accommodate tenant preference. Full MEES compliance achieved with zero disruption—all works completed over 4 months while tenants remained in occupancy.

Case Study:
PV and battery storage installations across four mosques in South Wales
Client Challenge:
- Multiple occupied community buildings required renewable energy upgrades
- Sites operated daily with fixed usage patterns, limiting access windows
- Pre-existing electrical compliance issues increased delivery risk
- Works needed to be delivered sensitively, without disrupting community use
Strategic Objective:
CEN delivered Solar PV and battery storage installations across four mosques in South Wales, integrating immersion diverter systems to use excess solar for hot water generation. Roof repairs were undertaken where required, ensuring structural integrity prior to installation.
Each site was a live place of worship, requiring careful sequencing around prayer times, community events and cultural sensitivities. In three mosques, we identified significant electrical safety issues (dual supplies, undersized fuses, unsafe wiring), requiring proactive engagement with the National Grid and DNO to rectify before installation.
CASE Methodology
Health & Safety Management
All operatives and subcontractors completed site inductions, with scaffolding inspected and approved, and deliveries carefully managed to maintain a safe, controlled environment.
Each site remained fully operational as a place of worship, requiring careful coordination around prayer times, while critical electrical issues were identified and resolved in collaboration with the National Grid and DNO prior to installation.

Outcome:
Systems were designed for optimal energy use, integrating diversion controls to provide hot water from excess solar generation. Unsafe electrical systems were upgraded, improving both safety and energy efficiency. Roof integrity was restored with minor repairs as part of our package, ensuring long-term resilience.

Mosque 1 – Iqra Mosque, Newport
Key Challenges
- PV cabling was required to run across the most visible face of the building, directly in view of a busy main road.
Approach & Solutions
- The contours of the building were used to route the cable discreetly, ensuring minimal visual impact.
Outcome
- An 8.55kW PV system with 20.4kWh battery storage was installed successfully.
- The finished installation achieved an improved aesthetic, mitigating visual impact on the building.
Mosque 2 – Shahporan Mosque, Newport
Key Challenges
- Access was restricted due to a narrow alleyway, with no suitable wall space available for installation, and an asbestos roof identified on site.
Approach & Solutions
- A scaffold-based access solution was implemented, alongside a bespoke mounting frame, while the system was reconfigured and panels relocated to a safer roof area.
Outcome
- A 17.8kW PV system with 20.4kWh battery storage was successfully installed, ensuring a safe setup while reducing asbestos risk.
Mosque 3 – Dar-ul-Isra Mosque, Cardiff
Key Challenges
- The project involved a Fatra warm-deck roof requiring approved methods, strict installation tolerances, limited access, and a mid-install inverter relocation.
Approach & Solutions
- A Fatra-approved setup was implemented with precise installation methods, coordinated scaffold access, and a redesigned system to accommodate client changes.
Outcome
- A 12.15kW PV system with 20.4kWh battery storage was installed in full compliance, with safe access ensured and the inverter successfully relocated.
Mosque 4 – Madni Masjid Mosque, Cardiff
Key Challenges
- The project involved complex scaffolding access, a Fatra cold-deck roof requiring approved methods, strict tolerances, and limited electrical access behind a marble wall.
Approach & Solutions
- A bespoke scaffold bridge was implemented, alongside Fatra-approved installation methods, precise measurements, and a safe alternative electrical connection strategy.
Outcome
- A 13.5kW PV system with 20.4kWh battery storage was installed in full compliance, with safe access ensured and no impact on the building’s structure or aesthetics.

Solar PV & Battery System Installation at Tredegar Ambulance Station
Challenge:
Design and installation of Solar PV, battery storage, heat pumps, and upgraded electrical systems at a live 24/7 ambulance station.
Required precise planning to avoid disruption and a bespoke mounting system to protect roof integrity.
Health & Safety:
Strict H&S measures implemented, including fall-arrest systems, scaffolding, and controlled site access. Daily coordination ensured zero disruption and zero incidents.
Cost & Programme Control:
Real-time cost tracking and weekly reviews ensured full budget control with no overruns. Structured scheduling and adaptive planning kept delivery on track.
Outcome:
We installed a SolarEdge fireman’s gateway, enabling full system shutdown in emergencies, enhancing safety for staff and first responders. The PV and battery system was integrated with remote monitoring, giving the client real-time visibility of generation and cost savings.
